About Whirlwind:
In this piece, the first section, the most dense of them all, immerses the listener into a slow-changing, large harmonic block with most of the activity centered in the middle range of the keyboards while the peripheral registers of the pianos focus on fragmented clouds of notes that escape the gravity of the middle-range action. As a transition to the following section, the mid-register counterpoint slowly reaches over the extremities, and the second section is clearly introduced with the drop of the peripheral registers, and the appearance of new melodic motives in the middle range of the keyboards. From this moment on until the end, the piece unfolds as a large tapestry of intricate counterpoint evolving as a whirlwind of motives, spinning out, and finally dissolving itself into a reversed funnel of counterpoint.
